Welcome to BiteReel. This Privacy Policy explains how Niklas Funk(trading as “BiteReel”, "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses and safeguards your information when you use the BiteReel mobile application and related services (the "Services").

By using our Services, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. You can download or print a copy for your records at any time.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways:

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Data — e‑mail address, display name and authentication credentials when you sign up.
  • Recipe Content — recipes you create, import or edit, including notes and photos.
  • Support Messages — any information you send us when you contact support.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data — features used, screens viewed, taps and time spent, collected with PostHog analytics.
  • Device Data — model, OS version, language, crash reports via Sentry.
  • Import Activity — video URLs you submit for recipe extraction and the resulting metadata.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Video Platforms — when you import a recipe, we retrieve metadata and captions from the source platform (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) to generate your recipe.

3. How We Use Your Information & Legal Basis

  • Provide and Operate the Service — authenticate users, save recipes, process video imports (Art 6 (1)(b) GDPR).
  • Improve the Service — analyse usage patterns, fix bugs, develop new features (Art 6 (1)(f)).
  • Communicate — send transactional e‑mails, security alerts and support replies (Art 6 (1)(b) & (f)).
  • Process Payments — manage subscriptions via RevenueCat; we do not store payment‑card numbers (Art 6 (1)(b)).
  • Ensure Safety & Compliance — detect fraud, enforce our Terms, comply with legal obligations (Art 6 (1)(c) & (f)).

4. Information Sharing & Disclosure

4.1 Service Providers

We share data with trusted vendors who perform services on our behalf:

  • Supabase — database hosting & authentication.
  • Cloudflare — CDN, video processing infrastructure.
  • PostHog — product analytics.
  • Sentry — error monitoring & performance tracing.
  • RevenueCat — subscription billing.

4.2 Legal & Business Transfers

  • We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
  • In the event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred to the successor entity.

5. Data Security

We use encryption in transit and at rest, strict access controls (Row‑Level Security) and regular security audits. No method of transmission is 100 % secure, but we strive to protect your data to industry standards.

6. Your Data Protection Rights

You have the right to:

  • access a copy of your personal data;
  • request rectification or erasure;
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • data portability;
  • withdraw consent at any time.

7. Data Retention

  • Account & Recipe Data — stored until you delete your account.
  • Analytics Events — anonymised after 24 months.
  • Crash Logs — kept for 90 days.

8. International Data Transfers

Where we transfer personal data outside the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we use Standard Contractual Clauses and other safeguards. You can request a copy of these clauses at [email protected].

9. Cookies & Tracking

Our public website uses only essential Cloudflare cookies. In‑app analytics uses PostHog with cookieless tracking; no advertising identifiers are collected.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13 (or older if required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us.
